Quick article today, I had a thought after reading a book from an author that I dont typically read. I could not help but notice the difference in the writing styles between both authors. Each author had their own personalised writing style.
I recently have also been informed, that the HR departments are currently receiving a high influx of cover letters written by GenAI. I enquired how they can spot the difference. Their response was the writing style is just the same
.
Humans, tend to follow their own grammar style when authoring documents. Some even may make spelling mistakes. Each human has a different writing style, and this style can change overtime. Also, other factors come in to play, such as was the human was under a lot of stress or time constraints during the time of writing as this can impact their writing style.
Further factors could impact a Humans writing style, such as is the Human dyslexic (many famous inventors where dyslexic) or was the human intoxicated during the time of authoring? I can safely assume, many famous authors have had a wine or three during the time of authoring their books (at the time of authoring this article, I have been enjoying a whisky).
There as a reason why laser removal services where very popular during the rise of typewriter usage (before digital computers and spellcheck). Humans make mistakes when authoring documents. Now your grammar teacher, may have their own opinion of the perfect grammar style & sentence structure but at the end of the day, we are humans, not machines (FYI kids, if your writing style dramatically changes overnight, I can safely assume that your teachers will notice)
This has led me to believe, as humans have been reading on mass for thousands of years. That perhaps its possible for humans to subconsciously spot the difference between writing authored by GenAI or writing authored by another human (Now, I am not calling for a rise of Salem AGI Trials, always remember innocent before proven guilty)
Now, spotting the difference in text that contains 140 characters of words or less may be very difficult, it not impossible to detect. This is why GenAI bots on social media websites have become so successful over the years (that GenAI bot account has more followers then you, kek) However, when reading text that contains multiple paragraphs, that spreads across multiple pages, humans may be able to subconsciously spot the difference.
With GenAI becoming more integrated into our lives, more research on this subject is needed. But this kind of research will involve multiple skilled persons from a range of different professions.
Anyway, that my 2 Cents on this subject, back to my whisky.
